They were reunited at last. One body, one mind, and in love again. For the time being, it didn't matter when they disagreed. Everything was going great. Until the police found the charred remains of his body under Castle Apartments. The newspaper headlines the day after told of the underground lair of a madman bent on ruling the world.
How could he have done this to me?
Was it real?
What now?
The day after started with a sizzle, literally. Shaniqua Washington King was back in the kitchen, frying hashbrowns for ungrateful customers. She was back in her apartment and had a job. Square 1, but she was in the game.

After hesitating in the hall for just a minute, Shaniqua finally summed up the courage to knock on Room 209. Judas opened the door immediately, ushering her into the one chair. He sat on the edge of the bed. "So what have you decided?" he asked. "I'm willing to try again," she replied. "When do you want to start? he prodded. "Right now."

Their honeymoon had been in Cancun, ending 15 years from last Wednesday. The pair was madly in love, but it was apparent they were going to have problems from the start. They had begun to argue about how they would support a family, which both had wanted. Had. Regardless of the bickering that began that week, it was still the happiest week of Shaniqua's life.
Shaniqua thoughtfully chewed her waffle. Looking around her old workplace, she noticed a happy loooking couple, Kindra and Andy sitting in the corner. That is what Shaniqua wanted again. But at what cost. Shaniqua and Judas's relationship would be far from perfect if they got back together. She still hadn't made up her mind.

The pair stood in the doorway to Shaniqua's Motel room staring at the ground, both hoping the other would speak first for what seemed like hours. Maybe it was. Shaniqua spoke first. "What do you want?" she asked. "Another chance," he replied. "It's over, Judas." "Listen, I know I made mistakes. You did too. But I still love you. My feelings for you haven't changed," he insisted. "I need time to think," Shaniqua whispered almost to herself. "Ok baby..." "Don't call me that." "Alright. I'm staying down the hall. 209. Let me know when you make your decision."
Shaniqua didn't reply, sitting in silence as she watched him walk out. Glancing at the clock, she noticed it had been hours. 6:30 in the morning. Shaniqua got back in bed. The sun rose. The sun set. She didn't move. The gurney and the men in blue came.
Shaniqua sat up and looked around. She was in the hospital. A muffled groan came from the bed next to her, from the bed of Christophe Moreau. For 6 hours, the two talked about everything. Life, politics, and Judas. As she was escorted out in a wheelchair, Shaniqua realized she had a lot of thinking to do.

... The door slowly opened, revealing the dark figure from the alleyway. 7 feet tall, and at least 250 pounds of pure evil. In his hand rested the handle of a very large baseball bat. He stood motionless for a moment, and then began to menacingly move towards me. I'm trapped. This is the end.
Shaniqua was jarred from her sleep. The same dream had taunted her dreams now for a week straight, even though the person who had opened the door a week before had been the janitor. At least I have a bed to sleep on, Shaniqua thought to herself. The manager of Motel 2 had recently placed a room down for maintenance, and while it was being remodeled, Shaniqua was allowed to spend the nights in them, free of charge. The nights had not been very productive, however; Shaniqua was getting little sleep because of the recurring nightmare.
The figure seemed very familiar. Shaniqua sat on the edge of the bed trying to visualize his face, but all she could think of was the large, hollow, bat in his hand. After 10 minutes of trying, Shaniqua slowly got to her feet and lumbered towards the door to continue her job hunt. Going around the corner on the staircase, she came face to face with the faceless man.

$65.50, the amount of money Shaniqua Washington King owned. After selling her engagement ring at the Pawn store, Shaniqua had bought a Christmas present for the owner of Forever 21. With the extra money and all of her savings, she had spent the last two months living in Motel 2, across Sunset Terrace from Castle Apartments. The sum of her wealth would last two more days, by her calculations.
Wearily, Shaniqua turned out the overhead light and crawled into bed. Home sweet home, she thought to herself. A loud crash out the window startled Shaniqua. Quickly jumping to her feet, Shaniqua turned on the light and rushed to the window just in time to see a menacing looking figure dressed in all black sprinting out of the alley between the roller skating rink and the bowling alley. "He has to be at least 6 & 1/2 feet," Shaniqua whispered under her breath. The 'man' suddenly came to a stop, and appeared to stare straight at Shaniqua. Quickly realizing her mistake, she rushed to the light switch and quickly flipped it off. Shaniqua then went over to the couch and inched it up against the door. Satisfied with a job well done, Shaniqua shuffled back to the bed and laid down, closing her eyes.
Footsteps creaked along the hallway, jarring Shaniqua from her sleep. The door handle began to turn, and then light flooded in to Shaniqua Washington King's room as the door opened outwards.

3 days until Christmas. 4 days until everything goes on sale, and the whole obnoxious season goes away. Not one merry song on WTF, no more annoying 'Christmas Specials' commercials, and the end of the mad dash in the various stores around Castle Apartments. There was still no word about any suspects in the "Arson" case at Forever 21, and the only upside to the season was that talks would die down about the fire. But deep down, a twinge of guilt prodded Shaniqua. Deciding to make the hike during prime shopping hours down to the Pawn Shop, Shaniqua put on her shoes and trudged out her apartment door.
The line was out the door, even with the horrible weather. Getting this accomplished today was life and death, because the lines would only get worse tomorrow. Making her way to the front of the line, Shaniqua pulled out her old engagement ring, her only valuable, and handed it to Rick, the store manager. After the customary greetings, it was time to deal. "So how much were you looking to get out of it?" Rick asked Shaniqua. "I was thinking, $600, 5 bare minimum of store credit." "I could go like $250, that's it" Rick countered." "How about 4? "How about $200?!" Rick's old man yelled from the back of the store. "$250," Shaniqua conceded. "Write her up, C-L, and get her the item she wanted with the credit" Rick told the store's idiot.
With the item in hand and a slight spring in her step, Shaniqua headed out the door and back to Castle Apartments. She didn't go to the usual room number, though. Quietly, she placed the package at the door of the owner of Forever 21, then stealthily slipped away into the darkness.
